  1. Dr. K, i use “ignore” massively and it works fine. Yes i am hitting now the problem in question – i cannot ignore the guy. So I agree w/him trying to disarm him. It partially works, what’s your take on it? I am trying to persuade my ideas w/him but almost always unsuccessful. Can you help me here?

The problem with ‘ignore’ as a tactic is that it leaves the problem in place, so you have to keep dealing with it. And in some cases, ignoring a person is the behavior that lights the fuse on their bad behavior in the first place.

I think it far better to be strategic. In my coauthored book, ‘Dealing with People You Can’t Stand,’ (McGraw Hill) I write about identifying the positive intent behind the bad behavior using the Lens of Understanding, and then applying the strategy that meets them where they are, blends with their behavior and redirects it towards a desired outcome.

      Best wishes,
      Rick

  2. Thanks, Rick!
